The current ELQF steering group is:

Marcus Bell

Marcus is a Principal Consultant at EPS and a Chartered Environmentalist. He works on a range of projects typically associated with brownfield redevelopment often with waste, air quality and geotechnical aspects. His background includes 10 years as a local authority regulator of contaminated land and air quality at East Cambs District Council and he starting working in the contaminated land industry in 2002, originally for Arcadis, then AIG Remediation. Marcus holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Quality Management from Leicester’s De Montfort University as well as a Batchelor of Engineering Degree in Industrial Geology from Cambourne School of Mines.

Alison Carruthers – Mott Macdonald

Alison is an Associate Hydrogeologist at Mott MacDonald working primarily on contaminated land but also providing support for water resources projects. Alison is a Chartered Geologist and SiLC with over 20 years’ experience. She has a BSc in Geology from Manchester University, an MSc in Hydrogeology from UCL and a PhD in hydrogeochemistry from UCL/Natural History Museum / Royal Institution. Her experience includes site work (usually either in the UK in dire weather conditions or basking heat in the Middle East). She spent some time on secondment to the Northern Ireland Environment Agency reviewing various planning applications and their impacts to human health or water resources. She has used various models to simulate geochemical interactions and fate and transport, from MODFLOW to ConSim, PHREEQC and ab inito models looking at surficial interactions.

Matthew Axton- West Suffolk Council

Matthew has been an Environment Officer at West Suffolk Council since 2015, specialising in contaminated land but also covering a number of other regulatory areas such as air quality, environmental permitting and private water supplies. Matthew has over 15 years’ experience in the contaminated land industry having previously managed the Geotechnical department at a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy where he worked on a range of projects from desk studies to site investigations, risk assessments and remediation throughout the east and southeast of England. Matthew also has experience working at the Environment Agency and for a specialist Geophysics surveying company. He holds a Master’s Degree in Geology from the University of Leicester.

Matt Lennard

Matt is Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer for NHBC,  Chartered Geologist and Accredited Risk Assessor for human health and vapour intrusion with the Society of  Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA).  Specialising in contaminated land risk investigation and risk assessment, he has over 20 years professional experience working for consultants, contractors, regulators and land-owners in all phases of contaminated land management from initial desk studies to site investigation, DQRA and remediation.   Matt holds a MSc in Applied Environmental Geology from Cardiff University and a BSc in Geophysical Sciences from Southampton University.

Marian Markham

Marian is a Principal Geoenvironmental Scientist, Chartered Geologist and Practitioner member of IEMA. She has over 15 years professional experience working at Halcrow Group Limited, now Jacobs. She has worked on a range of land development and infrastructure projects in the UK from desk study to remediation verification stage, often involving demolition and engineering of made ground. Marian holds an undergraduate degree in Geology from University of Bristol and a MSc in Environmental Biogeochemistry from the University of Newcastle. Her vocational qualifications include the qualifications BOHS P402 Buildings Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos and Non-Licensed Work with asbestos training. She is an active member of both the AGS Contaminated Land Working Group and the Safety Working Group.

Colleen Nunn

Colleen Nunn is Associate Director at TRC Companies Ltd. She has over 20 years professional experience in the investigation, assessment and remediation of contaminated land sites across the UK and has particular interest in waste classification, materials management and asbestos in soil. Colleen is a Chartered Geologist and a registered Qualified Person with respect to the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice (DoWCoP). Colleen holds a MSc in Environmental Biogeochemistry from the University of Newcastle, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (2000) and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Geoscience from University of Wales, Cardiff (1999).
